My name is Sheron Hall and my role is to welcome and include people who are Deaf or Disabled into the life of the church. I work alongside a team of people, some of whom have personal experience of these issues, and others who are part of the ministry and lay teams within our parishes. I co-ordinate the work across the Diocese and I have a varied role which is:-

To organise British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreters for Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

Co ordinating BSL signed church services across the Diocese

To provide training throughout the Diocese, to help increase awareness of Deaf and disability issues and to provide practical help and guidelines for action.

To help churches adhere to their legal requirements and share best practise between parishes.

To promote awareness of issues relating to the Deaf Culture; the Social Model of Disability and the Rights and needs of Carers.

To work collaboratively with other organisations involved in ministry with and among Deaf and disabled people.

To develop a team of volunteers.

To encourage parishes to get involved with Disability Sunday. This year it  is on Sunday 5th June 2011 (www.throughtheroof.org)

If you would like to organise a training event in your parish please conatct me at the address above or email: sheron.hall@blackburn.anglican.org
